Jazz Tee is here!

Hi all! We have designed and will be printing a new Jazz tee really soon! We strongly encourage all of you to get the tee(s), as it'll be a unifying factor amongst us Jazzies, and will also be useful in identifying us as Jazzttitude members during performances, etc.

As you guys can see (please refer to the pictures below), there are two colour combination options (A. white base with black silhouettes and purple font, B. black base with white silhouettes and pink font), and we'll be getting them both printed. For each member, the cost of one shirt will be $15, while buying two will cost only $25!

We'll be collecting orders AND payment after the respective classes THIS FRIDAY (yes, there will be class!), so please decide on your orders (sizes should be similar to other school based tees from secondary school, JC, etc.) and place them with us then. Also, we'd appreciate it if you all could kindly bring the exact amount required in cash to make the payment collection process easier and more efficient.

Thanks so much, and we look forward to seeing each and every one of you this Friday after the super long break we've had from dance! YAY. Can't wait!

For those who still haven't paid or wish to join us but couldn't make it last week, this coming friday (2 sep) will be THE LAST AND FINAL chance for you to make payment/register with us. We will not be accepting any more members after this friday (especially for beg!). So please please please remember to bring $70. Can go withdraw at the atm at YIH!

If we don't receive payment from you by 9.30pm, we are sorry but we are going to strike you off yeah?

Hi all!

First of all, the Jazz comm would like to thank everyone who turned up for our welcome tea today! And we apologise for the overcrowding, pls be assured that it will not be this crowded when classes officially start :)

Once again, we conduct our lessons on EVERY FRIDAY, at CAC studio at YIH, level 5. ( the same one that we used for the welcome tea)

6.30 to 8pm for BEGINNERS
8 to 9.30pm for ADVANCE BEG

$70 for 8 lessons.

A few announcements:

1) Those who couldn't make it for our welcome tea today, fret not! You (and your friends) can still come down to CAC studio on the 26th of aug to register with us and make payment.

2) Old jazzies and seniors alike! If you are interested in rejoining Jazz, pls do indicate your interest with us asap.

3) We are selling our Jazz T-shirts ( the one the comm members were wearing just now) Sizes range from S - L, limited quantities. Selling @ $5 each. Do let us know if you want to purchase one!

Hi all jazzies, we've noticed that some of you came 'unprepared' for dance class so here are the basic ground rules you need to know for all Jazzttitude lessons:

1) Do not wear slippers to class. As we may be doing techniques which require swift movements across the floor, it is advisable to wear a pair of covered shoes or dance sneakers during lessons. Only remove your shoes while doing warm-up.

2) Do not wear tight shorts, short shorts, skinny jeans, denim jeans, skirt-with-no-shorts for classes. Preferably stretchable, comfortable 3/4 pants will do! I'm sure you don't wanna tear your shorts while doing splits.

3) PLEASE SWITCH OFF YOUR PHONES or adjust it to silent mode during lessons. 上课时,请关好你的手机. Show some respect for our dance instructor. Don't be rude.

4) Try not to talk during lessons! Again, show some respect for our dance instructor. Don't be rude. 上课时,不要谈话 You can talk during BREAK time.

5) Try to be punctual for classes!

HELLO PEOPLE! audition results are out! Dancers will be allocated to certain items! Please let me know if you can do both items! =) we're doing 2! Rehearsals are to be held tentatively on Monday from 4pm onwards, Wednesdays, thursdays at 9pm onwards or Fridays 4-8pm! timings are yet to be confirmed, these are just tentative! We will be sending out an email to all successful audition-ees!

Also for those who did not make it, please do not be discouraged! we have Cactus every year! so come back next sem, you might get in for the following cactus! hope to see you around!!

This photo was taken last sem during our last beginner class. Some people may wondering why so few people last sem, well the reason is because some didn't come for the last class because of their final exam. The number of new Jazztitude member increased quite a lot compare to last sem.

In this photo, some of the people dance for the first time in their life. You can spot some similar faces and see how much they had changed after they join Jazztitude.

There are many reason why we dance. Some people dance to release stress, some people dance because it is fun, and some people dance because they just love it. There are many reasons that inspire us to dance.

Here is a quote from stepup 3D:
"People dance because dance can change things. One move can bring people together. One move can set a whole generation free. One move can make you believe like you're something more. … Dance can give hope.,"

This is a very good quote, and i hope you all don't stop dancing~!

Audition for DnD gig

Due to overwhelming response from our members, we have decided to hold an audition to select dancers for DnD gig.

This Audition will only be for members who did not participate in last semester's CACTUS performance.
(Advance Beginner 6.30pm-8.00pm)
(Beginner 8.00pm - 9.30pm)

Auditions will most likely be held this way:
1. Zee will be teaching us new choreo for a duration of half an hour.
2. We will group people into groups of 5 and each group will take turns to perform the choreography for Zee.
3. We would then select the dancers based on your performance.

Results of whether you have gotten in would be announced through emails and our blog, as well as on this fb page.

P/S: There will still be normal classes, for those who are not going for audition do come for your original lesson,you will still get to learn new choreography by Zee.

Practices will be held primarily on Saturdays 11am-1pm at CAC dance studio.

This DnD gig will be on the 20th November 2010 Saturday night at Grand Hyatt hotel.
This is a paid job so dancers who participate will get paid a small fee and there will be CCA points.

Hi people!

Whether you are a Freshie or Senior of Jazzttitude thank you for coming to Jazzttitude's welcome tea today! well yesterday! its 1.30am now hoho!

Yes, so i would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you for coming down and signing up with us! Especially our dearest hardworking committee for doing so many things! You guys are LOVE!

To all our freshies~
We hope you have enjoyed the trail class! I know it might have been tough on some of you since it might be your first time dancing and grooving to the music but fret not, this is what Jazzttitude is here for! To help you train up your dance and your attitude(not towards others ok!) . Nevertheless, you guys were great today! it was really enjoyable for us as we could really see some of you enjoying the dance so much! It was fun, well at least for me =x

So no worries, you guys will definitely find improvement in your dancing skills after doing more trainings with Zee! She will be back next week! Hurray!

Also to all the freshies who have yet to pay, please be reminded to bring along 75dollars and pass it to us next friday before/after the lesson starts!

At the same time for you guys to take note, for dance classes, do wear baggy pants or sweat pants or tights, which you would be comfortable in! Nonono jeans or very short shorts ok! you wouldnt be able to dance full out in them and im pretty sure you do not want to end up tearing your jeans or showing your undies in the process of doing stretches. As for shoes, its not compulsory to wear sneakers, but definitely no slippers or sandals allowed during trainings, its either barefoot or with foot-thongs/ballet/dance shoes/sneakers. For your own safety please remove any accessories you are wearing before coming for dance as well, as we do not want people scratching/hitting themselves or others with their watches/etc while trying to execute a dance move.

Lastly, to all the other freshies who have yet to sign up~!
For those who still wish to join Jazzttitude, do come down next week on friday! We will post the timings up soon, so just come down for which ever class you would like to join and sign up with us before/after the lesson! Just approach any of our committee member! Hi Freshies!

Welcome to Jazzttitude's Blog!

Here are some info about the welcome tea and registration matters!

Welcome Tea will be held on 20th August at the CAC dance studio located in the YIH building! 6pm!
During the welcome tea, we will be teaching you guys a short choreo from our dance item, from last semester!
After which refreshments will be provided and a short briefing will be given!

For the welcome tea, seniors will be teaching as Zee our in-house choreographer is still overseas in Japan for her training! After which, she will be back in the following week and back to coaching us!

As for Registration, it will be done on the welcome tea itself after the dance session! Do bring along 75 dollars to confirm a space in Jazzttitude as we do have limited spaces!
the 75 dollars paid would be for this whole of sem 1!

Also, a short writeup about yourself and why you'd like to join the committee is STRONGLY ENCOURAGED, though not compulsory. We would prefer it though. Tickets for CAC+US 2010 are out!!!! Do come and support us, and get your friends and family to come down too! Here are the details:

Venue: University Cultural Centre

Time: 8pm

Cost: $13 per ticket

*Free seating

There are 2 kinds of tickets, for Stall seats and Circle seats. Stall seats are on level 1, Circle seats on level 2. I currently have 100 Stall tickets and 40 Circle tickets. Circle tickets are limited!

If you want to get tickets, get back to me ASAP on how many tickets you want to buy, and when you can give me the money by, and I'll reserve them for you. Easiest way to pay me would be during class. I won't hold your tickets for more than 2 weeks if someone else needs them and can pay me! So priority goes to those who can pay! Preferably all transactions to be done BEFORE reading week, I want to study too!

There's a dance event called i-Am The System, Choreographers Ball, a dance show made possible with collaboration between local choreographers and well known foreign choreographers from Los Angeles -a fusion of hip hop with different essences of genres.

With regards to the team chosen for the audition as well as dancers who want to know when the next audition will be held, the following info is CRUCIAL:

An important announcement: CAC just announced to us (about a week ago) that CAC+US will now be held in August/September instead of March/April due to some constraints in finding a suitable venue for the large event.

Thus, this performance team that we have just chosen will be involved with external performances that we have in the upcoming semester 2. We're looking forward to keeping to this team for CAC+US if there is no problem with commitment.

However, a 2ND AUDITION will still be held at the end of SEMESTER 2 09/10 classes to seive out potential dancers to form the CAC+US team.

2. audition results will be out in 1-2 weeks time

3. positions for the committee 09/10 (sem2) will be up for grabs probably after the exams but keep yourself updated by following this blog or tuning in regularly for more news. you don't have to be in the concert team to join the committee because non-concert members will mainly be in charge of the classes (money matters, attendance) as well as doing public relations and organising outings. CCA points will be awarded.

Being one with no dance experience before entering university, the appointment as the President of Jazzttitude was something unexpected. However, after being convinced by the previous President to take up the challenge, I did. There were many events that Jazzttitude had involved herself in as I took the helm.

June Holiday Technique Classes

HEY ALL DANCERS!

JAZZTTITUDE is having holiday technique classes! This is an opportunity for us all to brush up on our technical moves like pirouettes and arabesques amongst many others! The classes will be held on the following days in June:

Tuesdays (7.30pm-9pm): 9th, 16th, 23rd, 30th
Saturdays (11am-1pm): 20th, 27th*

*Do note that there is no class on the 13th (Sat) as Zee has other commitments on that day. The make-up class is on 30th (Tue).

Tuesday classes are 1&half hours in the evening to accomodate those of you who are working while Saturday late morning classes are 2 hours each to maximise training time so that we can reap the full benefits from the technical classes. Best of all, we are only charging $40 for 6 classes! That is extremely affordable compared to dance classes outside school! We are only charging to cover costs, thus you can enjoy this privileged fee.

The lessons will be held at the NUS STAFF CLUB DANCE STUDIO (go through the entrance to the pool and turn right. It's next to the gymnasium).

Unlike the normal Classes that we have, technique class focuses on improving the technique of your Chanînés, Pirouettes, Attitudes and others. This technique class is held so as to improve the overall standard of techniques and movements.

Event: Cactus 09 (20,21 March 09)
Health and Fitness Club Muscle War (17 Jan 09)

Cactus: Annual showcase of sub club performances by Cultural Activities Club (CAC). This is the 3rd year that Cactus is going to be held and from the past 2 years we have seen an increasing number of audience and the standard of performances.

Muscle War: Annual bodybuilding event held by Health and Fitness Club. We will be performing at Vivocity on a Saturday which means that we have a huge number of audience! (approx 1000) getting cold feet? :P

Due to the proximity of both events, people who want to perform have to perform for both events. CCA points will be rewarded for these 2 big events.

Rehearsals: Rehearsals will be starting from December and so if you are going overseas, do inform the respective personnel which are the dates that you will not be in Singapore. We cannot have you missing too many rehearsals as it is very very disruptive.

Hello all dancers,

Advance Class:
Please be reminded that the Advanced Beginners class will start this Friday, 5th Sept 08, 1930hrs to 2100hrs at the Dance On Us at Claymore Point.

Directions:
Claymore point is a 15 min walk away from Orchard Mrt. Do see the link for the exact location. Don't worry if you still do not know how to go there.
For the first 2 lessons, we will be meeting at Orchard Mrt at 7pm before making our way down to Claymore Point. We will only be waiting for 15 mins and will leave Orchard MRT at 7.15pm! Call Hong Sheng at 96546461 when you reach Orchard MRT.

Beginners Class:
Please be reminded that the beginners class will start the coming Saturday, 6th Sept 08, 1100hrs to 1230hrs at the SRC Dance Studio (2nd level SRC).

Directions:
There is a link bridge connecting Yusof Ishak House (YIH) to the Sports Recreation Centre (SRC). Crossing the link bridge, you will reach the second level of SRC and the dance studio is just nearby. If you still cannot find the dance studio, you can call Gwendalyn at 81639 747.

However, you are still welcome to send me your name, contact number and email address for a place in the waiting list. First come first serve basis!

Advanced beginners is filling up fast. We still have 5 Slots left for the Advanced Beginners class.
To join the Adv Beg class, you must have some sort of dance background in relation to street jazz, jazz or ballet.

Beginners Class:

(Every Saturday)

•11.00am to 12.30pm

•SRC Dance Studio

• $60 for 8 lessons
No Dance Background required

Advanced Beginner:

(Every Friday)

• 5th Sept – 24th Oct’08
